Rachel Smith
Consultant Headteacher

I started my teaching career in Sheffield in a large rural school in Derbyshire where I worked for three years, movingonto an inner city school in Sheffield where I also worked for three years and eventually settling and  working in a range of schools in the Eden valley.

 

I have been head teacher at Long Marton school for over 20 years, I am a qualified Local Leader in Education and have been working with Asby school since last October 2012. Since April 2013 I have taken on the role of Consultant Headteacher.

 

 

Michelle Clark
Class 2 Teacher

 

I completed my PGCE teaching training in 2008 after graduating from Bournemouth University with a degree in Archaeology. I have taught in a number of different school, both large and small schools in Coventry, Cyprus, Italy and North Yorkshire.  I moved to Cumbria in 2016, and returned to teaching after maternity leave at Long Marton Community School where I taught English and Maths to Year 2. 

 

This is my first appointment as a Senior Teacher and I am excited about the challenges that lay ahead.

 

 

Emma Capstick
Class 1 Teacher

 

I qualified from St Martin's, Carlisle and worked in a small Eden school for a short time before joining Asby Endowed School in 2006. During my time at Asby I have also completed a PGCE in special educational needs.

 

When not at school I enjoy spending time with my three young children.

 

 

Heather Lowthian

Science, Computing & Music Teacher

 

I teach Science, Computing and Music to both Class 1 and 2.  I have a degree in Microbiology with Environmental Science and worked as a microbiologist for 5 years before completing a PGCE at St.Martin's College in Carlisle in 2002.  I teach at several of the local primary schools.  My daughter attended Asby Endowed School. Outside of school, I enjoy walking and horse riding.

 

 

Rosie Slack
Teaching Assistant

 

My name is Rosalie Slack, however everyone calls me 'Rosie'.  I have been a parent of pupils at Asby School, and for several years I have also been a teaching assistant in the KS2 classroom.

 

 

Joyce Law

Teaching Assistant

 

After leaving school and completing a NVQ 3 in Hotel and Catering & working in the catering trade for 7 years . I had a complete career change!  I trained at Biggins Nursery while studying & completing my NVQ Level 3 in Childcare  and Education.  I  also completed a Teaching Assistant Course.  I then worked as a Teaching Assistant at Ravenstonedale Primary School for 12 years before joining Asby School in 2015.

 

 

Margaret Barker
Small School Business Manager

 

I look after administrative matters and manage the finances of the school. I also ensure the building is well-maintained.

 

 

Dianne Maughan

Cleaner In Charge

 

I live on the outskirts of the village of Great Asby, and I have one son, who attended the school.  I started working at the school on October 2003. I am also a school governor.
