Chicks lead the way with learning

As part of their Science topics of animals and life cycles the children have been hatching chicks. Past pupil, Alice Harrison, who set up her own business in lockdown, selling eggs to the local community, kindly helped to lead the project, providing the eggs and the incubator.

Once the eggs began hatching, Alice visited the school, bringing in some of her hens with her. The children found out about how you can find out if the egg is fertilised or not and the children compared the chick to the fully grown hens. They were also lucky enough to see one of the hens laying an egg during its time at the school!

The children were very lucky to get 19 chicks hatch in school and over the coming weeks the children are looking forward to finding out how the chicks will develop and change over time.
