Asby Endowed School

Tree Planting

On Friday, the children walked to the edge of the village to join the Asby Tree Group in planting 80 hazel trees. One of our families own a field which is being planted with trees to benefit wildlife and soak up some of the water.

The children were shown how to plant a sapling by the experts. Then the Year 6 boys led teams of children to get the job done. They had to work together to get the trees in the ground safely.

Once all the trees were in the ground, they had to be protected. So, the children placed the tree protectors on them and had to carefully tighten the cables.

It was a very muddy session but very satisfying. Most of the children will have left the school by the time the trees are fully grown. They will be able to see the difference they have helped make in a few years.
