Asby Endowed School

Pupil Premium & Poverty Proofing the School Day

At Asby Endowed School we have worked to identify and overcome the barriers to learning that children and young people from families with less financial resources face.

We are a fully inclusive school and ensure that every child, no matter their background, is given access to the same opportunities.  To help families we do the following:

  • School trips - no cost to families since 2019;
  • Residentials - subsided by Friends of AES and Sports Premium;
  • School uniform - does not have school logo.  Shoes can be dry trainers/walking shoes.  We do not charge for second-hand uniform  - parents are able to swap etc;
  • PE kit - no specific kit: just plain t-shirt & shorts, joggers/leggings;
  • Adventurous activities - we provide the waterproofs, rucksacks, hat, scarf, gloves, walking boots and socks;
  • Stationery - we provide every child with all the resources they need for lessons;
  • Food technology - we provide all the food need for cooking lessons;
  • Swimming - no cost to families (we swim 2 x year);
  • After school club - 2 x free ASC per week; Mon & Tues - charged but only to cover staffing costs and falling rate for more than 1 child;
  • Water bottles, sun caps, wellies & football boots - school provides;
  • ICT - all pupils have individual iPads and Chromebook;
  • Staff gifts - we discourage the buying of staff presents at Christmas and end of year;
  • Christmas cards - we encourage 1 card per family;
  • Fundraising for charity - we only have 1 or 2 events per year (ie Harvest Cafe, Poppy Appeal);
  • School lunches - all children have access to salad bar as well as 2nds if they wish;
  • Homework - before setting we ensure all pupils have access to appropriate ICT at home, and if not, an iPad would be available or alternative homework set;
  • Team sports kit - provided by school;
  • Music instrument lessons to KS2 for a term each year free of charge.

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Pupil premium funding is available to:

  • local authority maintained schools, including special schools, pupil referral units (PRUs), and voluntary-sector alternative provision (AP).
  • special schools not maintained by the local authority (NMSS).
  • academies and free schools, including special and AP academies.
