Welcome to our beautiful school. With origins going back to the 1600s, the school was rebuilt by subscription in 1853 and the present building opening its doors in 1897. While we are aware and proud of our history, as you will see, Asby has been able to move with the times, ensuring that innovation runs alongside tradition!
Pupils in Reception and Key Stage 2 have a lovely, spacious classroom with amazing provisions to make learning fun, engaging and interactive. Class one includes an interactive whiteboard for teaching and learning while all pupils have their own iPads and equipment with which they begin to develop their independence as learners. The classroom opens up to Class 1's own outdoor continuous provision and play area, enabling our children to regularly brave the elements and enjoy learning about the world around them!
Children in Key Stage 2 learn in Class 2 - the largest room in the building. Like Class 1, the juniors enjoy learning from the interactive whiteboard and each child has their own iPad. The room is very flexible for many different approaches to teaching and we use this classroom for the school's lunch times.
Next to Class 1 we have our calm room - full of soft furnishings, lighting and relaxing music/ambience. Here children can read, relax and get away from the busy-ness of the main classrooms!
This is opening soon - check back for more photos/videos when the Calm Room opens.
For a school of our size, we are really lucky to have a large playground and field, in keeping with our beautiful village surroundings. Every breaktime, children have access to equipment from our play shed, which is managed by pupils throughout the week.
Situated in Class 2, our main library includes an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction for our class to enjoy. This is supplemented by termly visits by the Westmorland and Furness library van service; children get to choose three books of their own interest per term and these are added to our library for all children to enjoy.
We listen to the children and respond to their requests for books as much as we can so we can inspire a love of reading in every child at Asby.
We are fortunate to have a beautiful and spacious staff room which becomes an additional teaching area for small group work.
As you come into school through the cloakroom, you will find the staffroom through the door on the right. Visitors sign in and out here and Louise or Mr Liles will be on hand to help out. The office is manned throughout the week - the only time it is closed is on Wednesday morning!
