Asby Endowed School

School Hike

Today, the whole school went on a hike up Orton Scar led by Rob from Wilderness Outdoor Education. We walked from the school, through the village and up bridleways and paths.

On the way Rob pointed out things such as lime kilns and the remains of Iron Age settlements. The children enjoyed watching a farmer spreading slurry on their field.

After reaching High Pike, we found a sheltered place by a wall for an early lunch and hot chocolate. Then it was a hike across the limestone pavement to reach the nature reserve and then walked back to Sayle Lane.

On the walk back to school the children helped collect a whole wheelie bin’s worth of litter.

In total they walked 14.5 km or 9 miles!
