Remote Learning

In the event of self-isolating (or first 3 days of a National or School Lockdown)

We are very aware that many parents, carers and children are finding this situation very stressful and we do not want to put any pressure on families to engage on any particular day and feel pressured to undertake a certain amount or type of home learning.  Families need to find a way that works for them and their situation through this pandemic without any additional stress.  Therefore, our policy on remote learning is as follows:

  • For the days 1 to 3, follow the 3-day Remote learning programme from the school website

                     Class 1 -  https://www.asby.cumbria.sch.uk/class-1-1/

                     Class 2 -  https://www.asby.cumbria.sch.uk/class-2-1/

  • In the event of a National or School Lockdown, from day 4 (***) – We will follow a weekly timetable of activities (see below).

  • All lesson resources for that week will be shared in the class Showbie subject learning folder. We encourage at least all the writing, reading, spellings/phonics and Maths activities to be completed each day (approximately 3 hours of learning).  We appreciated that family circumstances may mean that it is not possible and a flexible approach to remote learning maybe required.   The weekly timetable will consist of:

  • Maths lessons age appropriate lessons will be uploaded to the class Showbie Maths Learning folder. This may be a combination of Oak National Academy maths videos, the screens shared in the classroom and resources/worksheets used in the classroom.
  • English tasks uploaded to the class Showbie English - writing Learning folder. The quantity will be dependent on age/stage of your child.
  • Phonics/Spellings to work on the sounds/spellings missing via SpellingShed.com  https://play.edshed.com/  and  class Showbie Spelling/Phonics Learning folder
  • Reading to continue reading the book banded books which have been sent home.
  • Guided Reading uploaded to the class Showbie Reading Learning folder.
  • Science and History/Geography task(s) will be uploaded to the class Showbie Science and History/Geography Learning folder. This will be lessons your child would have had in class this term which can be most easily adapted to remote learning.

  • All work is to be submitted virtually via the class Showbie subject Learning folders.  Appropriate feedback will be given to pupils via Showbie.  This may be written or verbal comments.
  • Staff will be available between 9.15am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday via Showbie chat, or via their staff email.
  • If possible, pupils are to sign-in daily by 10am, Showbie to register for that day.
  • Each Monday and Thursday morning at 9.30am, the class teacher will hold a ‘live’ chat with the class via Showbie to discuss the week’s learning.
  • A member of staff will call parents/carer once a week to discuss any problems/queries.
  • 1:1 support if your child receives 1:1 support, a more bespoke programme of support maybe be set up. This may include phone calls / video chats with your child’s 1:1 support. They will be expected to still complete the learning set.
  • Small group video learning which will look different depending on the age of the children. This may be guided reading sessions, maths sessions or writing sessions delivered by the class teacher. The sessions will run throughout the hours of the usual school day in small groups. The frequency of when your child’s sessions will occur will be communicated by your child’s class teacher via email. All sessions will be set up through class’ Teams page.
