Today, Class 1 picked strawberries, blackcurrants and courgettes from the school garden, The strawberries were delicious the way they were! We made blackcurrant cordial and can’t wait to try the blackcurrant ice-pops were made tomorrow. With the courgettes we made fritters and simply fried them in a little olive oil.
It is wonderful that the children planted, natured, picked, and then were able to make yummy dishes with the produce.
As a the end of year treat the whole school went to Lightwater Valley on Thursday, 14th July.
On Wednesday, 13th July the children visited St Johns in the Vale to have their first outdoor rock climb. None of them had ever climbed outside and many of them faced their fear head on.
Well done everyone!
The children enjoyed the fruits of their labours this week in school as the produce in the school vegetable patch continues to grow well. Children in Class 1 picked chard, courgettes, garlic and lettuce. With the help of Mrs Law, they cooked a tasty treat for the whole school.
The children in Class 1 used disclosing tablets this week in school to help identify areas of their teeth that they may have missed when brushing. The tablets contain a harmless dye that reacts with plaque that may remain on areas of teeth after brushing. The children went home with very pink tongues!
This term Class 1 have been learning all about kites. They began by finding out the history of kites; they then investigated suitable materials to make kites from. The children then designed and creates their own kites. We tried to fly the finished kites today with limited success as the wind dropped just as we were about to fly them! We will try again on a windy day!
