Class 1 had a lovely afternoon at Crosby Ravensworth School today. The two classes spent time singing songs together and making Gingerbread Man headbands in preparation for the Big Sing in Appleby on Wednesday 2nd March. The children all enjoyed making new friends. Thank you Crosby for allowing us to visit your school.
To help them with their ‘My Body’ topic, Class 1 had a visit from a student doctor today, Matthew Harrison, a former pupil of Asby School. He brought with him a full size skeleton, kindly loaned to him from Appleby Grammar School.
He taught the children how to put their arm in a sling, and the children loved having ‘a doctor’ in their role play area!
On Friday the children were inspired by natural objects to make sculptures out of clay. These ranged from acorns, to mushrooms and even an attempt at a squirrel.
The children have spent their first morning back exploring how sound travels via vibrations. They started by going outside to see what effect distance and walls had on the sound.
Then they made string telephones using a variety of cups and different lengths of string. They enjoyed talking to each other from a distance.
It was then time for a soundproofing challenge. A sound meter was used to measure the decibels from a phone playing a song. They tried lots of different materials to try to reduce the amplitude. They got quite inventive!
