  • Visit to school from PCSO

    Tue 17 Oct 2023

Today our local Police Community Support Officer, Erica, visited our school. She talked to the children about Halloween and Bonfire Night Safety. The children then created their own safety posters.

  • Dales Countryside Museum

    Wed 11 Oct 2023

The children had a fantastic time today at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes.  Class 1 have been learning about houses and homes this half term, whilst Class 2 have been studying WW11.  Both these topics were brought to life today at Hawes.  After learning about food rationing, the children were challenged to make sandwiches, using fillings that would have been offered to the evacuees who arrived at Hawes during WW11.  Banana and chocolate substitutes were used, as well as fish paste and spam.  Some fillings were more popular than others!

The children then spent time in the museum, which tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in the Yorkshire Dales for over 1,000 years. Class 1 children saw how homes have changed over the years.

The afternoon was spent making butter and cheese. The children were then treated to ‘cheese tasting’, which proved popular with the adults too!

Thank you to Jane Sammells, food historian, for providing a great hands-on, interactive day.

  • Harvesting apples

    Tue 10 Oct 2023

Today the children harvested apples from the garden of one of our school governors. They collected the apples in preparation for making apple crumble for our Pop-Up Cafe,  which opens at 12noon this Thursday.  Come along and join us for a tasty jacket potato followed by a delicious apple crumble.

Thank you Rosie for kindly donating your apples.

  • Pumpkin Patch

    Mon 09 Oct 2023

The whole school had a wonderful afternoon at Bankwood Farm, Appleby, learning all about pumpkins.  The weather was glorious and the children had great fun looking at the huge variety of pumpkins growing in the field. Thank you to Gemma for allowing us to visit your farm - we will return for some more hands-on, outdoor learning soon!
