  • Inspirational Speaker

    Fri 30 Sep 2022

Over the past few months we have had visits from various ‘Motivational Speakers’.  This week we had a visit from Debbie North, who truly inspired both children and staff with her story and determination to succeed in the face of adversity.  She is truly passionate about breaking down barriers and creating a countryside for all.

The children were also delighted to meet Debbie’s assistance dog ‘Tip’, who behaved impeccably!  Each child had ‘a go’ on the all-terrain wheelchair, which was great fun!

Debbie is the founder of the charity Access the Dales, which provides all-terrain wheelchairs for the Yorkshire Dales to help people living with Disability to get outdoors.  To find out more about Debbie and Access the Dales, go to https://www.access-the-dales.com

  • Tullie House and Carlisle Cathedral

    Wed 28 Sep 2022

The children have had a wonderful day today in Carlisle.  The morning was spent in Tullie House.  Class 1 took part in a Toys and Games workshop.  They thoroughly enjoyed themselves playing with the huge range of old toys and games.  They even had chance to make their own peg doll!

Class 2 had an equally enjoyable time learning all about  Egyptians, and looking at the vast range of Egyptian artefacts.

After a well-earned lunch, the children then visited Carlisle Cathedral.  We were given a very interesting and informative tour around the Cathedral, which is marking 900th anniversary this year.  The Cathedral is well worth a visit!

  • Wilding Theatre

Fri 23 Sep 2022 Michelle Clark

Following on from the Wilding Theatre workshop earlier in the week, the whole school  returned to Orton to watch the company perform.  They meet giants, dung beetles, woodpeckers, worms and lots of other animals.

Then after the performance they got to see the finished giants head they helped make on Tuesday and planted wild flowers.

  • Tell Tale Twit Workshop

    Thu 22 Sep 2022

This morning the children enjoyed a workshop with storyteller Gav Cross. First of all, he told us a twisted version of Jack and the Beanstalk with help from the children. He showed us how our fairy tales are actually quite horrible!

Then in small groups the children performed part of a nursery rhyme each. The children were shown how to had emphasis, change tone and volume, and use their faces to make the rhymes as scary as possible. They certainly intimidated the adults with their performances!

  • Wilding Theatre Workshop

    Tue 20 Sep 2022

This afternoon the children joined with children from Crosby Ravensworth school for a Wilding Theatre workshop with Miscreations. On Thursday they will be seeing the show but had to help prepare it and provide some sounds.

The children had to prowl and howl like wolves whilst hunting for natural objects to make music with. Then they were recorded using these items and their voices to make a lullaby for the play.

Next, they had to imagine they were passing through a tree and down into the earth. They went through a door and along a passage where some of them had stories of creatures they met on their journey.

Finally, children were able to volunteer to make some cob for a giant’s head. This will be part of the stage for the play. They had to mix soil, sand, water and straw. This was then slapped onto a frame.

  • Apple Crumble

Fri 16 Sep 2022 Michelle Clark

This morning, Class 1 harvested the apples from within the school grounds and made a delicious apple crumble which everyone enjoyed after their lunch.

We will be sequencing and writing the recipe up next week, ready to use at our Harvest cafe on 21st October.

  • Harvest Time

    Tue 13 Sep 2022

The children have been harvesting in the school vegetable patch today.  The onions and beetroot have grown really well over the summer!

  • The Day the Crayons Quit

Thu 08 Sep 2022 Michelle Clark

This morning Class 1 arrived to discover that all our pencil crayons had disappeared from the classroom.  We found large pencils around the room with messages from them!  We have written to the pencil crayons to return!

We will keep you updated on what the pencil crayons say.

  • Appleby Show

Tue 06 Sep 2022 Michelle Clark

Over the summer holidays, we entered the children’s portraits and handwriting into the Appleby Show.

    Congratulations to the winners!
