The children all went home with free goodies, including a timer to remind them about saving water in the bathroom.  The children also made a ‘Water Saving Promise’ which they are going to try and keep.

  • Trip to Bankwood Farm

    Tue 21 Nov 2023

Class 1 children had a wonderful afternoon at Bankwood Farm, Appleby, learning all about habitats.  They began by colouring in an animal mask.  They then classified their animals into groups, looking at the similarities and differences between them.  This was followed by a trip to the woods to discover the plants and animals that make their home in the woods. After careful observations using magnifying glasses, the children then made their own ‘bug hotel’ to take home.  They also made a bird feeder using pine cones, lard, nuts and seeds.  The afternoon was completed with a story.

  • Life in Africa

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

The children in Class 1 thoroughly enjoyed a visit to school from Peter Nutsford, who told them all about life in Kenya. Through lots of wonderful photos and video clips which he has taken whilst living in Africa, the children were able to learn all about African herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. They were then able to compare life for a child in rural Kenya with their own lives. They enjoyed talking about the many similarities and differences between life in a village school in Kenya and life at Asby Endowed School.

  • Visit to school from PCSO

    Tue 17 Oct 2023

Today our local Police Community Support Officer, Erica, visited our school. She talked to the children about Halloween and Bonfire Night Safety. The children then created their own safety posters.

  • Dales Countryside Museum

    Wed 11 Oct 2023

The children had a fantastic time today at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes.  Class 1 have been learning about houses and homes this half term, whilst Class 2 have been studying WW11.  Both these topics were brought to life today at Hawes.  After learning about food rationing, the children were challenged to make sandwiches, using fillings that would have been offered to the evacuees who arrived at Hawes during WW11.  Banana and chocolate substitutes were used, as well as fish paste and spam.  Some fillings were more popular than others!

The children then spent time in the museum, which tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in the Yorkshire Dales for over 1,000 years. Class 1 children saw how homes have changed over the years.

The afternoon was spent making butter and cheese. The children were then treated to ‘cheese tasting’, which proved popular with the adults too!

Thank you to Jane Sammells, food historian, for providing a great hands-on, interactive day.
